Bespoke Furniture Maker goes Green
"Since an initial conversation with a cold call company in October 2013, and after speaking to four independent companies (including a biomass consultant), who we felt could design and build a system for our needs, we decided to place our trust in Duncan Renewables and in June 2014 we placed an order. This decision was based on their team knowledge, past projects, approachability of the team, proximity to us and a competitive cost.
Very soon after that, the project manager visited site and advised us on the part we agreed to play within the scheme which included alteration to existing buildings to create the boiler house, preparation and creating a concrete base to support the pellet store and the excavation of a trench to accommodate the district heating pipes. The work started on 28th July and was fully operational on 14th August. We have enjoyed the system for the past 3 months and it works extremely well, although over this period we have had no spells of cold weather.
We have found all the team to be very helpful and good to deal with, from Sean in the beginning to Stuart and Gavin with the design. The installers, James and especially Matt, could not have done more to make sure the interruption to our business and home was carried out with minimum disruption. Thank you to Ben, the commissioning and service engineer, who we have had to call upon a couple of times regarding the simplest of troubles we have encountered and thanks also to Liam for your help and quick response to our emails regarding all the RHI queries etc. We would strongly recommended Duncan Renewables for your biomass heating system." -
Showstopper Rooftop PV installation at AV Dawson Ltd, Middlesbrough
“As a business with over 75 years of experience in the freight transport market we have always had a keen eye on fuel costs, but now, having significant warehousing and property portfolio, increasing energy charges have become a major cost to the business. As such we made a strategic decision to regain some degree of control of our electricity bills. Through contacts in agricultural circles I became aware of Duncan Renewables, and, following due diligence in the market and with the financial institutions who would be part funding an installation, we asked them to advise on suitability options. With over 1m sq ft of warehousing, several potential schemes were proposed and we chose a 240kWh array on our fabrication halls. These are where the majority of power is consumed, therefore offering the best return on investment. We did price the scheme with an alternative supplier, but the combination of professionalism, price and a site visit to a significant installation led us to proceed with Duncan Renewables.
This scheme had particular challenges, not least because the roof was at a height of almost 50m, but because fabrication was on-going in the space below. Duncan Renewables worked alongside our sheeting contractor to ensure a safe and efficient installation sharing access, cranes and fall prevention systems to reduce cost. Alongside the on-site activity, Duncan Renewables’ administrative team took care of all the registration paperwork and the connection agreement with the local DNO leaving us to get on with running our business. The installation was commissioned in June and by mid -July had generated 46,000kWh. We have been blessed with sunny conditions and it’s very satisfying to think that we are taking full advantage.” -

Pig farm benefits from Biomass providing hot water for commercial cleaning
“The Duncan Renewables team designed a bespoke package to combine hot water for power washing the pig buildings as well as heating the farmhouse. The installation involved many man hours in and out of pens full of pigs which the Duncan staff completed without any fuss or complaints in far from perfect conditions! Their experienced professional team worked miracles to convert our old underground Victorian coal boiler house to install 2× 100kW boilers, 2× 1500ltr buffer tanks and 15 ton pellet store, all fully automated and remotely monitored, supplying constant heat to the Hall for central heating and hot water.

Local Golf Club hits a hole in one with a new biomass boiler
"Selby Golf Club had been tracking the cost of oil over the last three years whilst also considering alternative fuel options. The Government's Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme for commercial premises hastened their decision making in 2013.
One of the Selby members works closely with Duncan Renewables and introduced them to us. The Club asked for detailed tenders from a number of potential suppliers and preferred the “one stop option” that Duncan Renewables were able to offer.

Yorkshire Dales Outdoor Centre goes Green
"Low Mill has an ethos about using the outdoors in a sensitive manner and helping educate participants about the need to be responsible for our environment. When it became clear we would need to replace our original oil boiler from 1976 I didn’t want to just replace it with another oil system, there had to be a more sustainable alternative both from a “green” perspective and financially for the charity. With the oil price rising exponentially, budget was a concern particularly as Low Mill is an independent charitable trust so the significant saving on fuel and the RHI offered a very real income incentive.
We chose Duncan Renewables over their competitors for their commitment to our project. The whole time they were honest and open, some other companies’ figures didn’t quite stack up and we were concerned that they could be over promising. Duncan Renewables took considered time over this and worked very closely with us to make sure they could put the best options in front of us. They walked through the whole process with us including the planning application, we felt like a partnership not just a customer. The installation was carried out during the winter down time, the Duncan Renewables team didn’t leave us until everything was 100% and they did a lot more “downstream” work than we first thought would be necessary. It is this level of support and continued care that we value.
We are receiving some very positive feedback from our clients who have commented that the building is warmer, with the reduced fuel costs we can afford to run the heating for longer during the day. "Our solar PV panels were installed on our small south facing roof during the build process of our new build house. Duncan Renewables were able to plan the installation so that the various stages were completed to fit around the builder’s requirements. The only noise is a quiet hum which tells us that the solar thermal panels are making us free hot water.
